Rev. Thomas Watson

Thomas Watson was educated  at Emmanuel College, Cambridge, England where he was noted for his hard study. In 1646 he was supposed to preach at St. Stephens, Walbrook, England. In the year 1651, he was imprisoned with some other ministers for his share in Love's plot to recall Charles II. After months of imprisonment, he was formally reinstated at St. Stephens, June 30, 1652. He obtained great fame and popularity until the Restoration, when he was ejected for nonconformity. However, he continued his ministry privately when he found the opportunity. In 1666, after the fire in London when the churches were burned, he held public worship services in a large room in a hall.

When the Declaration of Indulgences came into being in 1672, he obtained a license for the great hall in Crosby House. After preaching there for several years, his health failed, whereupon he retired to Barnston in Essex. He died there and was buried July 28, 1686. No mention is made of the date of birth of Mr. Watson. Among his more famous writings, was the the " Body of Practical Divinity" which appeared in publication in 1692. - A Treasured Meditation
